Trailer accident claims 12 lives,  injures 5 in Kano

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says 12 persons have died while five others were injured after a trailer driver lost control and crashed on the Zaria–Kano highway on Friday.

The Kano FRSC Sector Commander, Malam Muhammed Bature, said that the accident occurred at about 2:40 a.m. at Samawa Village in Garun Malam Local Government Area of the  state.

Bature, in a statement in Kano, said the accident involved a DAF CF95 trailer, with registration number KMC 931 ZE, loaded with goods.

He said that the incident involved 19 persons, with 12 persons dead, five others sustained varying degrees of injuries and two unhurt.

The sector commander said that the accident occurred when the trailer lost control and crashed because its cab detached from its body due to a mechanical failure in the trailer’s cab hook.

“The deceased victims were evacuated and deposited at Nassarawa Hospital, while the injured were taken to Kura General Hospital for medical attention,” he said.

The sector commander cautioned drivers against speeding, dangerous driving, and other unwholesome practices that might endanger lives and property.
