Two Killed, Several Injured in Fresh Accidental Airstrike in Niger

At least two villagers have been killed, while an unspecified number of persons sustained injuries in an aerial attack by a suspected military helicopter on Kurgi community in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.Residents said that the helicopter hovered over the community for several minutes on Sunday before opening fire which struck some homes, at a time villagers were going about their normal businesses.

Two people died instantly while several others including women and children reportedly sustained injuries.

One of the residents, Suleiman Sanusi, said the incident has heightened fear in the area, forcing many people to flee their homes to Bangi town and other safer locations.Sanusi described the attack as surprising and unprovoked, and called on relevant authorities to urgently investigate the incident and provide medical assistance to those injured.

The Nigerian Air Force and other security agencies had yet to issue an official response regarding the incident.
