We’ll modernise Almajiri Education System, says Jigawa governor

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, on Saturday, pledged to modernise the Almajiri education system to include subjects on western education and provide certification to students to enable them further their education in conventional schools.
The governor said he would sign the executive bill on Tsangaya Schools recently passed by the state House of Assembly, which was designed to strengthen teaching and learning in the Almajiri schools and enhance the capacity of the students to blend with modern times.
Namadi, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, made the pledge in Dutse at the graduation ceremony of 905 students of Sheikh Jafar Mahmud Adam Foundation who memorised the Holy Quran.
He said boosting education remained a priority of his government, including Islamic education.
Namadi added that since the inception of the government a lot had been achieved in the educational sector including Islamic education, and more will be done to open up access to qualitative and affordable education for all in Jigawa state.
On his part, the National Chairman of Jaatu Izalatulbidi’a wa Ikanatu Sunnah, Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau commended the Jigawa state government and Sheikh Jafar Mahmud Adam Foundation for their efforts in promoting education.
Sheikh Bala Lau appealed to the government and parents not to relent in getting every child in school to pursue western and Islamic education, and memorise the Quran, which “will purify their hearts, and positively guide their behaviour and conduct”.
Earlier, the state Chairman of the Council of Ulama, Dr. Abdulkadir Sale Kazaure, said the foundation has branches across the country teaching and making students, both male and female, to memorise the Holy Quran at tender age.
He said that the 905 graduates were from the Sheikh Jafar Mahmud Adam Foundation centres across the country.
