Why professor’s choice as LGA Chairman matters – Group

An Associate Professor with Federal University Dutse, Abdurrahaman Salim, is set to contest for the Chairmanship seat of Gwaram Local Government Area in Jigawa State in the election slated to hold on October 6, 2024.
The Syndicate reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) picked the Associate Professor as its candidate during the party’s congress held in Gwaram.
Prior to the congress, a meeting of key stakeholders in the party had zeroed on the lecturer, who has over the years endeared himself to the public because of his selfless service to the community.
Salim’s candidature has steered interest from across the state, with Gwaram Community Assembly, a non-governmental organization, saying it was happy with the development.
According to the group in a statement, the nomination of a professor for the post
symbolises a new paradigm shift in Jigawa politics.
“It has opened new page in the history of Jigawa state politics, a transition to professionalism in managing public affairs after decades of maladministration,” it stated.
The believed that if elected, Salim will make a good leader.
“Professor Salim as a distinguished scholar and exemplary leader with proven track record of service to the community, his dedication to the advancement of education, public welfare and development of his locality, the LGA and the state at large, we are optimistic that, if elected, he will provide exemplary leadership that will lead Gwaram LGA to progress and prosperity,” it added.
Salim, an associate professor of Animal Science, worked with Jigawa State College of Agriculture from 2010 to 2013 before transferring his service to Federal University Dutse in 2013 where he held various offices including Level Coordinator, Departmental Examination officer, Faculty exam officer, Head of Department, Deputy Director ICT, Deputy Dean SPS, Dean SPS, Welfare officer, ASUU FUD and Chairman ASUU FUD chapter.
