Why we moved Kabara from Kano to Kuje- NCoS 
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) says the recent transfer of Malam Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara from the Kurmawa Custodial Centre in Kano to the Kuje Custodial Centre in Abuja was an administrative procedure carried out in line with its operational guidelines.
This is contained in a statement by the state Public Relations Officer of the service, Mr Musbahu Lawan on Wednesday in Kano.
Lawan said that the transfer, which took place on Tuesday, was made in accordance with the NCos Act, 2019, as part of its statutory responsibilities for effective management of inmates across the country.
He said that such transfers were routine and often influenced by factors such as security considerations, inmate classification, facility capacity, and rehabilitation needs.
“The public is hereby assured that the welfare and legal entitlements of Malam Abduljabbar remain fully protected under the law. The transfer does not in any way affect his legal status, rights of appeal, or access to legal representation.
“The Controller of the Kano State Command reaffirms the Service’s commitment to ensuring safe custody, reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of offenders in the interest of state security and public safety,” he said.
Kabara, an Islamic cleric, was convicted by a Kano State High Court in December 2022 for blasphemy and sentenced to death by hanging.
He had been in custody while pursuing his appeal against the judgment.
The transfer of Kabara to Kuje had generated some concern among Kano residents, especially among his supporters and opponents.
