Withheld Salary: Varsity unions protest in Jigawa

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and other Allied Institutions (NASU) of Federal University Dutse (FUD) in Jigawa State have staged a peaceful demonstration in protest of what they described as federal government’s segregation in its treatment of universities personnel.
Speaking during the peaceful protests held at premises of the university, the chairman of NSSU, Comrade Alasan Abdullahi said the protest was also over the refusal of the government to settle their four months withheld salaries.
“The members of the unions are protesting to shows our dismay over the Federal Government decision to pay ASUU the four months withheld salaries leaving other members of the association, this is an injustice as every staff is important,” Alhassan said.
According to him, the unions are not happy with the way the federal government is handling their grievances as if they are not members of staff of the University.
He said that the two unions will embark on warning strike if the government fails to respond positively to their demands.
The Syndicate reports that the protest by the unions followed the failure to resolve the matter at a meeting on Thursday with officials of the Federal Ministry of Education.
Both NASU and SSANU are simultaneously holding two days nationwide protests over the matter, which began on Monday.
