Yobe Cargo Airport Signs Agreement With NAMA To Commence Commercial Operation
Yobe State Government and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) have signed a Service Level Agreement for the commencement of full commercial operation at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport, Damaturu.
The Syndicate reports that the agreement was signed today at NAMA Headquarters in Lagos.
The Managing Director, Mr. Farouq Ahmed Umar, signed on behalf of NAMA while Yobe State Commissioner for Transport and Energy, Hon. Muhammad Muhammad Bara, and the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mustapha Abba Geidam, signed on behalf of the state government, owners of the cargo airport.
Under the agreement, NAMA will provide critical services to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant aerodrome operations at the airport.
These include Air Traffic Control Services, provision and maintenance of aeronautical communication systems, navigation and surveillance Systems, aeronautical information services and search and rescue coordination support.
This brings the cargo airport at the verge of full compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) operational and safety standards.
Gov. Mai Mala Buni has described the process as a “major leap in our journey to open Yobe State to global aviation, trade, and investment opportunities.”
He said that the government would ensure the departure and arrival of 2026 Hajj pilgrims from the airport, marking the first-ever international passenger movement through the airport.
He commended the state Ministry of Transport and Energy, NAMA, and all technical partners for their dedication, noting that the cargo airport will significantly boost economic activities, job creation, and infrastructural modernization in the state.
