Yobe Governor Presents N515.6 Billion Budget For 2026 To Assembly

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has presented a budget of N515.6 billion for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly for approval.
Tagged “Budget of Economic Growth and Infrastructural Transformation,” is heavily tilted towards capital projects, with N323.46 billion, representing 62.7%, earmarked for capital expenditure, while recurrent services will receive N192.13 billion, which is 37.3% of the N515.6 billion budget.
The governor said focus would be on completing ongoing projects and the launch of new ones that directly impact citizens, despite global economic challenges.
He explained that the budget will be financed through revenues from the Federal Account, Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), aids, grants, and the Capital Development Fund (CDF).
Buni said the key sectoral allocations in the 2026 proposal include, the economic Sector allocated N245.7 billion; social services, N200.3 billion; General Administration, N63.97 billion; and the Law and Justice, N5.98 billion.
The governor gave an overview of the state’s 2025 fiscal performance, saying N263.68 billion was realised during the year out of the projected N320.81 billion, an 82.2% revenue performance.
He added that the total expenditure was N235.44 billion, with N109.87 billion spent on capital projects and N125.57 billion on recurrent costs.
Buni highlighted several major achievements, including: the over N17 billion spent on empowerment, seeds, fertilizers, and farm machinery.
He said over N22.8 billion has been invested in the Damaturu flyover project, now at 55% completion stage, alongside massive road reconstructions across all the 17 localgovernmentareasofthestate.
According to him, over N19.6 billion was expended on the construction of modern markets and a mega shopping mall, plus over N11.2 billion on solar streetlights and rural electrification projects.
Buni reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to sustain infrastructural renewal, strengthen economic recovery, and promote good governance.
In his response, the Speaker of Yobe State Assembly, Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, described the budget presentation as a constitutional exercise that reaffirms the state’s commitment to “transparency, accountability, and prudent financial management.”
He cited Sections 120, 121, and 124 of the 1999 Constitution, which mandate the process for authorizing state expenditure.
