Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has announced the establishment of Yobe Mining Development Company (YMDC) and appointed Engr. Bamodu Yerima, a renowned geologist, as its pioneer Managing Director.

A statement issued by Yusuf Ali, Senior Special Assistant, Digital and Strategic Communications to the governor said that the initiative is to harness the untapped solid mineral resources in the state, unlock job opportunities, boost revenue, and attract investments for the  sustainable development of the state.

The Yobe Mining Development Company will conduct comprehensive feasibility studies on the state’s solid mineral deposits, identify their commercial viability, and lay the groundwork to attract investors.

The Syndicate reports that the state has array of mineral resources, including gypsum, diatomite, limestone, kaolin, and potash, which have remained largely unexploited.

The statement said that the move underscored the administration’s commitment to the full exploration and development of the state’s abundant mineral wealth.

“This development is in tandem with other key reforms initiated by the Buni administration, including the creation of the Yobe Agency for Public Private Partnership and Investment Promotion (YAPPPIP).

“Both the mining company and YAPPPIP are integral components of the government’s broader strategy to open up Yobe State to investments, foster industrialization, and enhance economic opportunities for residents.

“Gov. Buni’s reforms reflect his visionary leadership and commitment to transforming Yobe State into a hub of economic activities.

“By exploring and developing the state’s solid minerals sector, the Buni administration continues to demonstrate its dedication to creating a diversified and resilient economy that will benefit generations to come,” the statement further said.
