Yobe Postpones LG Elections

By Muhammad Maitela, Damaturu

Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), has announced the postponement of the Local Government elections earlier fixed for May 25.

The Executive Chairman of the commission, Mamman Moh announced the postponement while addressing  newsmen on Wednesday in Damaturu.

“The May 25th 2024 date of election as earlier broadcasted is no longer realistic due to logistics issues and other reasons that may impede the seamless and free and fair Local government council election in state.

“It therefore became imperative to adjust the date of the Election to 8th June 2024. That is,  two weeks after the May 25th date.

“On our timetable, the only changes will be the date of the Election 8/6/2024, and the time to stop the campaign. The announcement of results follows after the election,” he added.

The chairman urged political parties and the electorate to bear with the commission.
