Yobe Relaxes Curfew In 3 LGAs
Yobe State Security Council meeting chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni, on Tuesday relaxed the curfew imposed on three majorvtowns due to violence and looting on the first day of the end bad governance and hunger protest.
A statement by Mamman Mohammed, Director-General, Media and Publicity to the governor, said the decision to relax the curfew was taken after thorough review security situation in the state.
“After careful assessment and noticeable improvement in the security situation in Potiskum, Gashua and Nguru, Gov. Buni has approved a review of the curfew, which now starts from 6.00p.m-6.00 a.m with effect from tomorrow Wednesday 7th August, 2024,” he said.
The Governor commended the security organisations for handling the situation maturely and professionally in spite of the hijack of the protest by hoodlums and criminals
“The council cautioned parents and guardians to always monitor their wards and not to allow them to be used as agents of destruction and looting.
“The council also called on traditional rulers, religious and opinion leaders to preach peace and peaceful coexistence, and support government efforts towards entrenching peace and security across the state.
“The Council recognised everyone as a stakeholder in peace building and should support security agencies with timely and useful information on all suspicious persons and movements in their localities,” he stated.
It also urged the public to be vigilant and report cases of illicit transactions including trafficking, sales and consumption of prohibited drugs.
The governor assured the security agencies of continuous support and called for proactive approach to security issues as the state, which is emerging out of decade old protracted security challenges, cannot afford to accommodate new forms of violence and insecurity.
