Zamfara villagers abduct wives of bandits in tit-for-tat

In a  tit-for-tat, some residents of Birnin Magaji, a community in Zamfara State, have reportedly intercepted and abducted wives of  bandits terrorizing them in a retaliation to a recent kidnapping of some farmers in the area.

One of the abducted wives of the bandits was pregnant, according to PR Nigeria which broke the news.

However, the total number of bandits abducted was not revealed.

The website quoted an unnamed youth leader in the community as confirming the abduction of family members of the bandits.

The youth leader also confirmed that the bandits had kidnapped some community members while working in the farm.

He said many residents of the area no longer go to farm as a result of activities of bandits.

“The armed bandits invaded the farm and threatened the farmers before they took them away.

“These days many people here cannot go to the farm and even in our home we are afraid they could come and abduct us for ransom.

The report also indicated that the community leaders and bandits’ kingpins are already negotiating to resolve the stalemate.

However, it  could not be ascertained if police are involved in the negotiations.

Zamfara, in Northwest Nigeria is one of the states affected by banditry.

Aside abduction of farmers, the bandits also regularly kidnapped students, and impose fines on communities before allowing them access their farms.
