Zulum commissions housing complex for teachers in Mafa
Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, has commissioned a 72-unit housing complex, comprising two and three-bedroom apartments for teachers in Mafa Local Government Area of the state.
The houses were built to address the critical shortage of accommodation for teachers in the state and as part of welfare package for them.
Zulum, who commissioned the houses on Tuesday, said his administration remains committed to revitalising the education sector, which has been adversely affected by over a decade of insurgency.
At the event, the governor presented the keys to the houses to the beneficiaries, stressing that the welfare of teachers is paramount to achieving qualitative education.
According to him, providing decent and secure accommodation is one of his administration’s key priorities.
The Syndicate reports that the estate has 24 two-bedroom semi-detached units and 48 units of eight blocks three-storey buildings of three bedrooms. Each unit was designed to provide a comfortable and dignified living space for the teaching staff and their families.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr Lawan Abba Wakilbe, said the beneficiaries were selected from primary and secondary schools, and commended the governor for prioritising the welfare of teachers.
