JIGAWA ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE COMMENDS PROGRESS AT JSUMAHS, MAJIA
The Jigawa State House of Assembly Committee on Higher Education has commended the progress recorded at the Jigawa State University of Medical & Allied Health Sciences (JSUMAHS), Majia, during an oversight visit to the University on Friday, 18 September 2026.
The Committee, led by its Chairman, Hon. Muhammad Abubakar Saidu, Member representing Sule Tankarkar Constituency, visited the University to inspect ongoing projects, assess institutional development and review activities aimed at strengthening the University’s academic and physical infrastructure.
The delegation comprised Hon. Yau Abubakar Balangu, Member representing Balangu Constituency; Hon. Mas’ud Abdulrahman Wawaru, Member representing Babura Constituency; Hon. Muhammad Inuwa Idris, Member representing Kazaure Constituency; and the Secretary of the Committee, Aliyu Yau Idris. The Committee was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mahmoud Umar Sani, alongside the Principal Officers and other members of the University Management.
Speaking during the visit, the Chairman said the Committee was at the University in fulfilment of its constitutional oversight responsibilities and to gain first-hand knowledge of ongoing developments, projects and activities at the institution. He commended the University Management for the progress recorded and expressed the Committee’s interest in supporting efforts aimed at further developing the institution.
In his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the Committee for the visit and its continued interest in the development of the University. Professor Sani briefed the delegation on some of the major achievements recorded by his administration within the past six months.
The achievements highlighted included the renovation of the female hostel, completion of the male hostel, development of a twin theatre, commencement of the Principal Officers’ residential quarters, deployment of software systems for the Bursary and Registry, furnishing of laboratories, and construction of two staff quarters.
The Vice-Chancellor further reaffirmed the University’s commitment to improving infrastructure, strengthening academic activities and providing a conducive environment for teaching, learning and research.
As part of the visit, the Committee inspected a number of key facilities within the University, including the completed male hostel, faculty buildings and the University Library. The inspection enabled the Committee to assess the progress of ongoing developments and engage with the University Management on areas requiring further attention and support.
The visit reaffirmed the importance of continued collaboration between the State House of Assembly and JSUMAHS in promoting the sustainable development of the institution and advancing its mandate in medical and allied health education.
