Jigawa Govt approves N273m for 20 Greenhouses in 10 LGAs

The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved N273.29 million for the construction of 20 greenhouses across 10 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the State.
This is contained in a statement by Alhaji Sagir Musa Ahmed, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture.
Ahmed said that the approval was given at the Council’s meeting chaired by Gov. Umar Namadi on Monday in Dutse.
“The Council has approved the award of contract for the construction of Twenty (20) Greenhouses (Type II) in ten (10) Local Government Areas of the state at a total cost of Two Hundred and Seventy-Three Million, Two Hundred and Ninety-Three Thousand, Two Hundred and Seventy-Two Naira, Fifty Kobo (₦273,293,272.50),” he said.
Ahmed said that the LGAs were Birnin Kudu, Gumel, Kafin Hausa, Kiyawa, Kirikasamma, Jahun, Malam Madori, Roni, Taura and Sule Tankarkar.
“The Council approval was granted during the State Executive Council meeting as part of the administration’s sustained efforts to promote youth empowerment, modern agricultural practices, and sustainable livelihood opportunities across Jigawa State.
“The project is designed to scale up and consolidate the extensive training received by 82 youths from across the state in modern soilless farming techniques at the Soilless Farm Lab, located in Abeokuta.
“The greenhouse facilities will provide practical platforms for trained beneficiaries to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the programme, particularly in controlled-environment agriculture and high-value crop production,” he said.
Ahmed said that the greenhouses were expected to serve as centres for year-round agricultural production, enhance food security, promote agribusiness entrepreneurship, and create sustainable income-generating opportunities for young people across the state.
He said that the project would also contribute to improving the living standards of beneficiaries by equipping them with practical skills and access to modern farming technologies.
Ahmed said that the council also approved payment of compensation to shop owners affected by the remodeling of Kafin Hausa Market and structures sffected by Township Road construction.
“The Council approved the payment of compensation to shop owners affected by the remodeling of Kafin Hausa Market to the sum of Three Hundred and Thirty-Seven Million, Three Hundred and Sixty-Five Thousand, Four Hundred and Fifty Naira (₦337,365,450.00) only.
“The Council also approved compensation of structures affected by the construction of Doko and Dangyatin township roads at the sum of Seven Hundred and Fifty-Seven Million, Two Hundred and Fifty-Six Thousand, Two Hundred and Ninety-Seven Naira, Fifty Kobo (₦757,286,297.50) only.
“The Council stated its commitment to implementing development projects in a manner that protects the interests and livelihoods of affected communities while advancing the overall welfare of citizens,” he said.
Ahmed stated that the council approved contracts for the supply of female students’ uniforms and procurement of official vehicles.
“The Council has approved the award of contract for the supply and distribution of 23,800 sets of female students’ uniforms (Lot 1) and the procurement of official vehicles (Lot 2) at a total contract sum of Six Hundred and Twenty-Three Million, Six Hundred and Fifteen Thousand, Three Hundred and Forty-Four Naira, Fifteen Kobo (₦623,615,344.15) only.
“The Council approved the award of contract for the supply and distribution of 23,800 sets of female students’ uniforms to public schools across the state.
“The initiative is aimed at promoting access to education, supporting school enrollment and retention, and alleviating the financial burden on parents and guardians.
“The Council also approved the award of contract for the procurement and supply of the following vehicles: One (1) fairly used Toyota Corolla LE, one (1) brand-new 14-seater Toyota Hiace Bus and one (1) brand-new Toyota Hilux vehicle.
“The vehicles are intended to support official operations, strengthen service delivery, and enhance the mobility and efficiency of the beneficiary institution(s) and government agencies in the discharge of their responsibilities,” he said.
Ahmed added that the council also approves release of funds for haulage of FGN Subsidized Tractors and Agricultural Implements Under Agricultural Mechanization Programme
“As part of the State Government’s commitment to the successful implementation of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope National Agricultural Mechanisation Programme, and in furtherance of the development objectives contained in the 12-Point Agenda of His Excellency, Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, aimed at transforming agriculture from subsistence farming into a vibrant, high-yielding, and commercially driven agribusiness sector, the Council has approved the release of funds in the sum of Five Hundred and Seventeen Million, Two Hundred and Eighteen Thousand, Seven Hundred and Fifty Naira (₦517,218,750.00) only to cater for transport and logistics services for the haulage of subsidized 100 tractors, agricultural implements, and related components from Abuja to Dutse.
“The release of the funds will facilitate the safe and timely transportation of the agricultural machinery and associated equipment to Jigawa State, thereby ensuring their prompt deployment to support farming activities across the state in the current raining season,” he said.
