10 civilian JTF members killed in ambush in Zamfara
Ten members of the Civilian Joint Task Force in Zamfara who were killed in an ambush on Saturday have been buried in Anka, the Syndicate reports.
The incident occurred after a major assault on bandits by security forces including the JTF in Sunƙe forest, where many bandits were eliminated and large cache of arms recovered.
The state governor, Dauda Lawal, who confirmed the incident, also said many were injured and three were missing.
“The report I received indicated that they were ambushed on their way back home by some fleeing bandits at Bagega. Six members of the state security watch corps and four vigilance members were killed. Their funeral prayers took place this morning. There are also three others missing – two state security watch corps members, and one vigilance group member.
“Since the incident, I have directed that immediate medical support be given to those injured, and essential commodities provided to the families of those who died.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Zamfara State, I pray that Almighty Allah will accept their martyrdom for sacrificing their lives in the defence of humanity. May Allah forgive their sins and give their families the strength to bear this loss.
“Let us all continue to pray and contribute our quota to ending insecurity in Zamfara State and Nigeria as a whole,” the governor said.
