The Governing Council of the University of Maiduguri has expressed gratitude to Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum for the huge investment he has made in the education sector in the state.
The Chairman of the Governing Council and Pro-Chancellor of the University, Dr Yunusa Adamu Dan Gwani, made the commendation on Monday in Maiduguri.
He said, “We are here not only to pay a courtesy call on you, but to thank you and the Borno State Government for all you have been doing for the university and the education sector in general.”
“We are not surprised; we went round the city and we have seen what you have been doing for the education sector. Not only that, but I believe each Nigerian will bear witness to what you have been doing in the education sector.”
Responding, Zulum reassured the governing council of support for the university to retain its glory in academic excellence.
“I believe all of us are stakeholders in this university, and my main objective is to ensure that the University of Maiduguri regains its lost glory in terms of academic excellence. I will support all initiatives from the Governing Council that will ensure the growth and development of the university,” Zulum said.
The governor said the Borno State Government would partner with the University of Maiduguri in areas of research and development to promote security and agricultural advancement.
He noted that with over 70,000 square kilometres land mass, Borno state can contribute to Nigeria’s food needs.
