The Kano State Governorship Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Comrade Aminu Gwarzo, has picked Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate for 2027 general elections.
A statement issued by the spokesperson for Gwarzo, Malam Ibrahim Shuaibu, said Kwankwaso was unveiled on Monday in Kano after his formal presentation before the party’s caucus and key stakeholders during a consultative meeting held at Miller Road, Kano.
Shuaibu said the selection of Kwankwaso was described as a strategic and well-considered decision aimed at strengthening the party’s vision of inclusive governance, youth empowerment, economic development, and effective service delivery across Kano State.
According to him, Kwankwaso emerged as the party’s preferred choice after extensive consultations and careful consideration of several qualified individuals.

Speaking on the development, Gwarzo expressed confidence in his running mate’s capacity to contribute meaningfully to the administration’s agenda, noting that his experience, leadership qualities, and grassroots appeal make him a valuable asset to the ticket.

Kwankwaso, a former Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Kano State, brings with him extensive experience in public service, youth development, and community engagement.

Shuaibu said that the NDC believed the Gwarzo-Kwankwaso ticket represented a strong combination of competence, experience, integrity, and commitment required to address the challenges facing Kano State and provide purposeful leadership for its citizens.

The choice of Kwankwaso was widely regarded as a significant boost to the party’s political structure and grassroots support base as the NDC intensifies preparations for the 2027 governorship election.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to providing a credible alternative for the people of Kano State and called on members, supporters, and stakeholders to remain united in advancing its vision of progress, transparency, accountability, and good governance,” he added.
