2027: Kwankwaso, Aregbesola meet over ‘Nigeria’s democratic landscape’
Former governor of Kano state, Rabiu Kwankwaso has met with the immediate past minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola, at his Lagos residence.
The meeting is seeing by pundits as part of ongoing realignment of political forces ahead of the 2027 general election.
Both politicians are looking for stronger platforms as Aregbesola dumps the ruling All Progressives Congress while Kwankwaso has issues with the national leadership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
In a social media post, Kwankwaso said they discussed national issues and the future of Nigeria’s democratic landscape during the meeting.
“This evening, I had the pleasure to visit the former Governor of Osun State and former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, at his residence in Lagos.
“The meeting afforded us the opportunity to engage in discussions on national politics, governance, and the future of Nigeria’s democratic landscape. – RMK,” he wrote on X.
There has been moves by the opposition to form a united front to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Aregbesola, a former protege of President Tinubu, fell out with the president over the second-term governorship ambition of Gboyega Oyetola, his successor in Osun state.
Aregbesola was minister of interior under former President Muhammadu Buhari, while Kwankwaso, a two-term governor of Kano state and a former defence minister, was the Presidential candidate of NNPP in the 2023 elections.
