Zulum Donates House, Scholarship To Boy Beaten By Teacher In Viral Video

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has pledged to present a fully furnished house to the family of the boy beaten by a man in a viral video.
Zulum who received the boy, Bashir Gaji at the Government House on Sunday, noted that the boy’s father was killed by Boko Haram insurgents while the rest of the family are living in a displaced persons camp in Monguno.
The governor said apart from the house, the boy will receive full scholarship to cover his education.
Zulum met the little boy after the arrest of his tormentor, Bukar Modu, whom the governor for his immediate prosecution.
Modu was arrested in Umarari area of Maiduguri by security agents on Saturday on the orders of the governor.
The video of the incident sparked outrage across social media platforms, and highlights the grave violation, children face, and which require robust response from law enforcement and judicial authorities.
Zulum emphasised that his administration will not tolerate any form of abuse or exploitation of minors.
“This heinous act is an affront on our values and a betrayal of our duty to protect our children, students and minors who are under our guardianship,” he said.
“We cannot tolerate such actions perpetually repeating itself. I am directing the relevant authorities to move swiftly and ensure that this individual faces the full extent of the law.
“Our children deserve a safe environment to grow and become meaningful members of society.”
The governor directed Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to mount community awareness campaigns targeting families and local teachers and guardians on the proper means of enforcing discipline on children.
