The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) says all the 480 Nigerian pilgrims accommodated in Imaratus Sanan Hotel in Mecca, which was gutted by fire on Saturday, are safe.
The incident occurred around 12pm on Saturday, when the pilgrims were in Mina.
“Immediate emergency response by Saudi authorities and the hotel management helped to contain the fire swiftly and prevent it from spreading all over the building.
NAHCON Chairman, Professor Abdullahi Usman, accompanied by the Commissioner of Policy, Personnel Management and Finance, Alhaji Aliu Abdulrazak, and Deputy Makkah Coordinator, Director Alidu Shutti, have visited the site to assess the situation.
The NAHCON chairman thanked Almighty Allah that no life was lost, and said they had inspected a new building to resettle the affected pilgrims.
