Namadi Opens Jigawa Law Week, Tasks NBA On Professional Ethics

Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi has declared open the 2025 Law Week of Dutse branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) with a call on members of the bar to hold strongly to ethical practices to fast track justice delivery.
According to him, the NBA should continue to be strict in maintaining ethics and professionalism which it has been known for.
“I am truly delighted and profoundly commend your efforts in seeing that the State NBA is successfully striving to promote the tenets and principles for which the Association has always been associated with.
That is, promoting the rule of law, ensuring access to justice for all, including for the less privileged, and smooth dispensation of justice in Jigawa State,” he added.
The governor described the theme of the Law Week, ‘Upholding Justice Through Ethical Advocacy’, as very apt as it aims to keep members abreast with the values of upholding ethical standards in ensuring access to justice for all, and doing away with unwholesome practices that could hinder smooth dispensation of justice.
He added that beyond professional and social networking, the event would foster discussions, not just between lawyers, but also among other key stakeholders in the administration of justice in Jigawa State.
“I have for several months followed with keen interest and admiration how you have administered and organized the State NBA Branch into a unified and formidable platform serving the positive interest of the legal profession and the esteemed learned members of the Association in Jigawa State and even beyond,” he said.
Namadi said the state government has established Community Law Centres, introduced ‘Zauren Sulhu’, an arbitration forum, and plans to scale-up Citizen Right Units in all Judicial Divisions in the state, among other initiatives to fast track justice delivery.
He urged all stakeholders to perform their duties conscientiously, reminding them that they are accountable for their actions in the Hereafter.
Speaking earlier, the Dutse branch NBA Chairman, Barrister Mustapha M Kashim, reaffirmed their commitment to stronger ethical practices and contributions to speedy justice delivery in the state legal system.
According to him, this year’s theme is aimed at encouraging lawyers to perform their duties conscientiously and promote ethical advocacy for speedy justice delivery.
“The Dutse NBA branch in the state is committed to boost ethics and professionalism in the legal system in Jigawa,” Kashim added.
The state NBA chairman said the association has introduced capacity building programmes through training and retraining on law practices for all members.
He commended Governor Namadi for his concern and support to the legal system in Jigawa state.
