Women group hails governor over ‘bold’ steps to restore peace in Kaduna
The Women and Girls Health Empowerment Network (WGHEN), has commended Governor Uba Sani for the bold steps taken by his administration in reducing divisions along ethnic lines, and restoring peace and hope in communities affected by conflict in Kaduna State.
The Programme Manager of the women group, Barrister Farida Muhammad Oyiza, made the commendation at an event to mark the International Day of Peace, held at the Arewa House, Kaduna.
She said that Governor Uba Sani has emerged as a model of inclusive governance and dialogue-driven peacebuilding in Nigeria.
Barrister Farida emphasised that the peace and stability enjoyed in Kaduna state was the result of governor’s commitment to fairness, justice, and inclusivity since assuming office in May 2023.
“True peace is built when leaders embrace dialogue and govern with justice and fairness. Governor Uba Sani has set a bold example by reducing tension, curbing ethnic divides, and restoring hope to conflict-affected communities in Kaduna State. WGHEN is proud to join in honoring him as the Peace Champion of Unity in Diversity,” she said.
The programme manager called for greater inclusion of women and girls in peacebuilding processes, stressing that sustainable peace cannot be achieved when half of society is excluded from decision-making.
“Women and girls must be at the center of peace and governance. Their voices, perspectives, and leadership are critical for building resilient communities.
“WGHEN will continue to advocate and partner to ensure inclusivity remains a cornerstone of peace in Kaduna and across Nigeria,” Barrister Farida said.
In his opening remarks, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) of the 19 Northern States and FCT, and also the Country Director, Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN), appreciated the governor for promoting peace through dialogue and inclusive governance in Kaduna state.
Hayab urged people of the state including religious and traditional leaders to consistently support government initiatives that foster unity, justice, and fairness.
In his message through Dr Sule Shuaibu SAN, the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Governor Uba Sani reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to consolidating the gains so far made in the area of peace building and peaceful coexistence in the state.
He pledged that the government would continue to prioritise policies that promote inclusivity, security, and community development.
The event, organised in partnership with GPFN and Church and Society, featured cultural performances, goodwill messages, and the conferment of the Peace Champion of Unity in Diversity Award on Governor Uba Sani.
The Women and Girls Health Empowerment Network is a nonprofit organization committed to advancing the rights, health, and empowerment of women and girls in Nigeria.
The WGHEN works to ensure that women and girls are active participants in governance, peacebuilding, and national development.
