A Message To Sowore And Others: Before You Seek Release Atone and Apologize To Victims

Late Bar. Nnaemeka Ugboma

Today is October 13, exactly two years since my elder brother Barrister Nnaemeka Ugboma, a Magistrate and Chairman of a customary court in Imo state was shot in the head and killed during a court session by “unidentified” gunmen.

This is just one out of many directly related ones – cousins, brothers, fathers, priests –  that have been murdered in the South East. Imagine speaking with your loved one in the morning and him being mowed down shortly after!!

Those who speak up easily have not known pain as we do. Kanu may not have directly ordered these killings but we hold him responsible. The jailed one Ekpa, is also responsible for all the carnage. So Mr Sowore, before You jump into protest call for your personal reasons, be sure that apologies are rendered to families who have suffered greatly in the south east. Their forgiveness must be sought. My brother was not killed by the Federal government!!.

I see so many controversies, arguments even from those who do not understand. That picture is just one out of thousands. That lifeless body took me with it and made my family suffer in pains till today. The pain is inexplicable, yet people carelessly state opinions against victims without thinking twice and not realizing that Karma is real.

A conscious effort must be made to apologize to us. Our tears and pains are endless. It is worse when a family’s shelter, breadwinner, only child is killed.

Sowore please check your Sahara reporters. They carried this story as well. A quiet, kind unassuming young man of 55 murdered in cold blood by trigger happy young boys attacking institutions in south east..

Whatever you do, never forget that what goes around will always come around. Until you feel the pain, you can’t understand it!. Imagine if that corpse was your son. Do You know he has an aged mother who is 80 and alive? She wept this morning because she remembers!!

How do you think I feel watching her weep and shaking and me trying to pretend to be strong? Then going inside later to hide and weep? Advise is cheap. Until you feel it.

Therefore, before we speak, let us consider our words carefully and be sensitive. Let us realize that there is need for forgiveness. Kanu did not pull a trigger but cannot be exonerated from the carnage. Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown!!

Time to appease the soul of the dead is now and time to sincerely seek forgiveness of victims is now!!

May this fate never befell anyone because it is not a pain one should wish on anyone. I pause !!

May my brother’s Soul and that of all other victims Continue to Rest in Peace. Amen.
