A Kano State High Court, presided over by Justice Musa Muhammad, on Wednesday sentenced one Hayatu Muhammad, a football coach, to eight years’ imprisonment after he was found guilty of committing sodomy with one of his players, who is a minor.

Presenting the case, the State Counsel, Bar. Ibrahim Garba, said that the accused,  a resident of Sanka in Dala Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, committed the act twice at different locations.

Garba called five witnesses to testify against the defendant.

He said that the offense contravened Section 284 of the Penal Code Law.

In his defense, the convict testified as the sole witness and initially pleaded not guilty.

Justice Dahuru, after reviewing all witness testimonies and the evidence presented during the trial, upheld that the defendant committed the offense as charged.

He sentenced him to four years for each of the two counts.

Justice Muhammad ordered that the sentences should run concurrently, beginning from the day of the judgment.
