Community tasks Kano State Govt to reconstruct Chalawa-Bela Road 
Members of the Yadakunya Community in Ungogo Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano State, have tasked State Government to expedite action on the reconstruction of the 14.6 kilometres Chalawa-Bela Road which is in a deplorable state.
A cross section of theose who spoke with the syndicate on Tuesday in Yadakunya, expressed sadness over the poor condition of the road.
Malam Sunusi Musa, a community leader, said the road had been in deplorable state over a long period of time, creating hardship on commuters and residents.
Musa said the road was the only access to the Yadakunya General Hospital, which provide health care services for people across the state and beyond.
“The Yadakunya General Hospital, has great history, because it is one of the few skin hospitals that we have in the entire northern Nigeria.
“Dozens of people visit the hospital daily to seek for medical attention, patients travel from all parts of Nigeria to the hospital for treatment, people come from Edo, Ondo, Ekiti and other states to seek for medical attention here.
“But the deplorable condition of the road makes it difficult for the people visiting the hospital.
“A journey of about 20 minutes from Dakata to the hospital now takes about 2 hours, creating untold hardship on the people, ” he said.
Musa added that although the State Government had made some moves on the reconstruction of the road, nothing had been done so far.
“Few weeks ago, heavy-duty vehicles were mobilised to the road and some clearing were down, but beyond these nothing has changed,” he said.
Alhaji Mustapha Iliyasu, a motorcyclist, corroborated the claim, appealing to the State Government to commence the reconstruction of the road without delay.
“We are appealing to the government to come to our aid by reconstructing the road, ” he said.
Iliyasu said that the deplorable condition of the road was affected patients who visit the hospital daily for medical attention.
“The situation is really sad, patients have to travel to the hospital through the road to seek medical attention.
“Some time people have to pay up to N1000 from Dakata to Yadakunya because of the poor condition of the road, ordinarily, the transport fare shouldn’t be more than N300.
“We hope that the government would come in a very short while to reconstruct the road, ” he said.
Hajiya Sa’adatu Maiwaina, a business woman, said the poor condition of the road, had negatively affected business in the area.
“I’m a business woman, I used to by goods from town to sell in the community, but the poor condition of the road, has led to astronomical increase in the transport fare, which makes it difficult for business to survive.
“I call on Gov. Abba Yusuf, to help alleviate our suffering by reconstructing the road,” Maiwaina said.
