Jigawa Senator, Chinese envoy deliberate on agricultural trade, skills development in constituency

The Senator representing Jigawa North-West, Senator Babangida Hussaini, has held a bilateral meeting with the Nigerian Ambassador to China, Yu Dunhai, to strengthen cooperation in the areas of agricultural trade and skills development.
In a statement made available to The Syndicate in Dutse, Senator Hussaini described the engagement as “productive and fulfilling,” saying that the discussions centred on practical areas of partnership that would directly benefit his constituency, Jigawa State, and Nigeria.
The Senator, who chairs the Senate Committee on Northwest Development Commission, added that the talks aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises the expansion of non-oil revenue through enhanced agricultural trade and skills development.
Hussaini revealed that the new initiative is targeted at boosting the export of key agricultural commodities such as sesame seeds and hibiscus flowers, improving market opportunities for farmers and traders, and strengthening commercial ties that can stimulate local economies.
“We discussed establishing a strong and sustainable trade linkage between our major markets — particularly Gujungu Market and the Maigatari International Border Market — with markets in China,” he stated.
He added that the dialogue also explored training opportunities in China for youths, to build their capacities especially in technology, skills acquisition, and postgraduate studies.
“I am confident that these partnerships will open new doors for our young people, enabling them to grow, be innovate, and contribute meaningfully to national development,” he said.
Senator Hussaini expressed appreciation to Ambassador Yu Dunhai for his openness and readiness to collaborate, reaffirming his commitment to pursuing strategic partnerships that will drive development and long-term progress in Jigawa North-West and Nigeria.
