NITDA Comnends Housing Ministry’s Digital Operations

Following the Quality Assurance Assessment conducted by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has received commendation on significant progress recorded in its digital transformation drive.

A statement issued by Badamasi Haiba, Director Press and Public Relations of the ministry, on Tuesday in Abuja said the NITDA’s team conducted an assessment on three Information and Communication Technology (ICT) projects implemented by the Ministry under its 2024 Capital Budget

The team led by Dr. M. Agbali commended the Ministry for the progress recorded, particularly its transition towards paperless operations and the positive impact of technology on administrative efficiency, transparency and staff productivity.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, expressed satisfaction with the achievements recorded, stressing the importance of leveraging technology to strengthen institutional performance and improve service delivery.

He noted that the adoption of digital solutions remains essential to building a more efficient, responsive and accountable public service.

The quality assurance assessment provided an opportunity for the Ministry to showcase its achievements in leveraging technology to strengthen institutional capacity, enhance administrative efficiency and promote transparency in public service delivery.

The three projects assessed include the Digitalisation/Digital Transformation of the Filing and Records Management System for a fully automated enterprise electronic workflow; the Deployment and Upgrade of Internet/Intranet Infrastructure; and the Deployment and Setup of Video Collaborative Conferencing Terminals.

The Digital Transformation of the Filing and Records Management System, implemented through the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform, marks a major milestone in the Ministry’s transition from manual record-keeping to a digital and paperless working environment.

The project, which went live on September 30, 2025, has so far facilitated the scanning, indexing and electronic storage of over 10,000 files, significantly improving document retrieval, accountability and administrative efficiency.

The system has also enhanced staff productivity by enabling access to official documents both within and outside the office environment, while reducing reliance on physical records and saving the Ministry substantial resources that would otherwise have been spent on office accessories.

Similarly, the upgrade of the Internet/Intranet infrastructure is aimed at strengthening network connectivity, reliability and information security to ensure seamless communication and more efficient service delivery.

The deployment of Video Collaborative Conferencing Terminals is also expected to enhance virtual meetings, facilitate interdepartmental collaboration and improve communication between the Ministry, government agencies and other stakeholders.

The assessment also provided an opportunity to identify areas requiring sustained attention to ensure the effective operation and long-term sustainability of the implemented systems. These include software licence renewals, technical support, data security and adequate backup arrangements.

The Ministry remains committed to deepening its digital transformation agenda through continuous innovation, strategic collaboration and the adoption of technology-driven solutions.

The initiative underscores the Ministry’s determination to build a smarter, more efficient, transparent and responsive institution, in line with the Federal Government’s drive towards a technology-driven public service.
