DSS not involved in alleged harassment of CITAD staff – Coalition

The Civil Society Coalition on Peace, Security and Conflict Resolution (CCSPCR) has absolved the Department of State Services (DSS) of any blame in the alleged harassment of a staff member of the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD).
This is contained in a statement signed jointly by Muhammad Musbahu Basirka, Chairman and Fahad Harazimi, Head of Secretariat, CCSPCR, on Friday in Dutse.
“The Civil Society Coalition on Peace, Security and Conflict Resolution (CCSPCR) wishes to address a recent report alleging intimidation and an invitation purportedly issued by the Department of State Services (DSS), Jigawa State Command, to a staff member of the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), a respected partner within the civil society community.
“Following a thorough and independent verification, the Coalition has established that the alleged invitation was not issued by the DSS, Jigawa State Command.
“Our findings confirm that the communication originated from an unauthorized source, which not only falsely claimed association with the DSS but also directed the concerned individual to appear at a location other than the DSS office at 10:00 AM.
“In light of this, we wish to categorically inform the general public, civil society actors, and all stakeholders that: There is no official invitation or summons from the DSS, Jigawa State Command, to any member or partner of the Coalition in relation to the ongoing matter, it said.
The Coalition added:”The DSS, as a professional security institution, has no involvement in this particular claim of intimidation.
“The Coalition has formally escalated the suspicious contact details for appropriate scrutiny and necessary action.
“Furthermore, the Coalition emphasizes that the matter concerning Walida’s case is currently before a court of competent jurisdiction.
“As a law-abiding body committed to justice, accountability, and due process, we maintain a firm position of respecting ongoing judicial proceedings and refraining from actions or statements that may prejudice the case.
“We therefore call on members of the public and the civil society community to: Remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information. Uphold public order and responsible engagement. Allow the judicial process to proceed without interference or undue speculation.”
“The Coalition reiterates its commitment to safeguarding the rights and security of its members and partners. We remain vigilant and proactive in addressing any form of misinformation, intimidation, or actions capable of undermining peace and justice.
“We also acknowledge the ongoing efforts of relevant security agencies, including the DSS, in ensuring law, order, and the protection of citizens.
“The Civil Society Coalition on Peace, Security and Conflict Resolution remains fully engaged and on top of the situation, while continuing to support lawful and peaceful processes in the pursuit of justice”.
