The police command in Bauchi State has arrested two suspects
linked to the tragic deaths of two children in Alkaleri and Ganjuwa Local Government Areas (LGA) of the state.
SP Nafiu Habib, the state Police Public Relations Officer, said this in a statement in Bauchi.
Habib said that the first case occurred in Alkaleri LGA, where a six-year-old boy, Mubarak Ibrahim was allegedly poisoned by his stepmother, Fatima Ibrahim in Kwaimawa village.
“On Oct. 16 at about 1600hrs, his world changed after he allegedly took a drink given to him by his stepmother, one Fatima Ibrahim, 23 years old, of Kwaimawa village.
“Moments later, the cheerful boy started vomiting uncontrollably. His family panicked, rushed him to PHC Kwaimawa, then to FMC Gombe where doctors battled to save him.
“For eight days, he fought for his life. On 24th October, 2026, he lost the battle. A doctor confirmed him dead,” Habib said.
He said that the stepmother was arrested after the case was reported to the police.
“Following a report by the Village Head of Kwaimawa, detectives swung into action and arrested the suspect. She is now in custody as investigation continues,” Habib said.
The spokesperson said that the second case occurred in Zaila Village of Ganjuwa LGA, involved a five- year- old Habiba Abubakar who was staying with her as Aunt.
“On Oct. 23 at about 1900hrs, her grandfather, a resident of Badaromo Village, reported she was missing. The whole village searched. They called her name until nightfall. No answer.
“At dawn on Oct. 24 at about 0700hrs, hope turned to horror, her tiny body was found abandoned in a small water pit behind the village.
“A 5-year-old girl, alone, lifeless in a pit,” he said.
Habib said that the case was reported to the police for action.
“Upon receiving the report, police operatives from Soro Division cordoned off the scene and arrested one Sadiku Musa ‘M’ 19 years old of same address in connection with the heinous act.
“Both cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi for discreet and thorough investigation,” he said.
Habib said that the state Commissioner of Police Mr Sani Omolori Aliyu has described the incidents as inhuman.
“These are innocent souls. Children who looked up to adults for protection. We will ensure that justice speaks for Habiba and Mubarak,” the CP vowed, while commiserating with their families,” he said.
He urges parents, guardians and community leaders to watch over their children more closely and to promptly report strange persons or suspicious movements.
