By: Ahmed Aminu, Dutse

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has called on President Bola Tinubu to sack the Minister of State for Defence from his cabinet for failing tackle the security challenges facing the country, especially his home state, Zamfara.

Lamido stated this when he spoke with newsmen on Monday in Dutse, when he commented on a video clip showing a kidnapped first class Emir from Zamfara who was being tortured by his abductors.

The former minister said the measure became necessary for the president to retain his and administration’s confidence in the eyes of national and the international community.

“The person in the video clip in a blood soaked gown is a First Class Emir in Zamfara with one other. They are pleading to the authority to come to their rescue within a time line ultimatum given before their execution.

“Tragically, the lives of these citizens are now at the mercy of the bandits. And ironically, the very government which is supposed to secure them is busy toasting and celebrating the vote of confidence it passed on itself.

“More tragic is, the two Ministers of Defense are from the same geographical zone, one of them coming from the very State with these captives. Sadly enough, he was also the immediate passed Governor of the State.

“In any civilized society, if the Ministers don’t have the conscious to honorably resign, the President should have by now relieved them of their portfolios”, adding that the government must not risk loosing public confidence,” Lamido who was the foreign affairs minister from 1999 to 2003 said.
Lamido also Jigawa governor from 2007 to 2015 said that the primary responsibility of any government was the security of life of its citizens.
