North East commission inaugurates new schools, vocational training centres in Yobe

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has inaurated three mega schools and three vocational training ccenters Yobe State.

The facilities are located in Gashua, Buni-Yadi, and Potiskum.

Other facilities were a state-of-the-art auditorium complex at Yobe State University equiped with literature and music theaters, a modern ICT center in Damaturu, and the the NEDC state office also in Damaturu.

The Syndicate reports that the facilities were inaugurated by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu on Monday.

He said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to driving the reconstruction of the Northeast, which has been devastated by insurgency.

According to him, this will ensure inclusive growth, and balanced national progress.

He said that the recent establishment of five additional regional development commissions for South East, North West, South South, South West, and North Central, were meant to address gaps in the development of the regions.

“The Federal Government’s initiative aims to reduce regional disparities and accelerate sustainable development across the region,” the minister added.

On the projects executed by the NEDC, he said it was a demonstration of the strong collaboration between federal and state governments in rebuilding the Northeast.

“The government will construct safe learning spaces and ICT hubs while implementing the STEM-A – Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Agriculture – programme to prepare our youth for a technology-driven future, among other strategic initiatives.”

Uba Maigari reaffirmed President Tinubu’s commitment to addressing security challenges in the region.

In his speech, the NEDC Managing Director, Mohammed Goni Alkali said numerous additional projects are nearing completion, with plans underway for a second phase of commissioning.

Alkali guaranteed equitable development across all Northeast states, highlighting Yobe’s exemplary role in regional resilience and growth.

“The ceremony showcased the Federal Government’s comprehensive strategy for regional transformation, positioning Yobe as a benchmark for sustainable development,” he added.

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by the Secretary to the State Government,  Baba Mallam Wali commended NEDC’s impactful interventions, including the construction of educational and healthcare facilities, houses and other developmental projects throughout the state.

Governor Buni, however, urged the NEDC to prioritize crucial road projects, particularly the Gaidam-Maine Sorowa and Gaidam-Damasak roads to bolster security and economic integration with neighbouring Niger Republic and Borno State.
