A team of Police investigators have rejected a $17,000 bribe offered by a three-man syndicate suspected of defrauding two Americans of up to $71,000.
The bribe was allegedly offered by Billion Ndubuisi, Charles Amachree, and Martins Chinemike when police arrested them in Rumukparali community, Obio-Akpo Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The three suspects had confessed to using the name of Ryan Bill, an American celebrity, to defraud one St. Andrea and Charlen Zielinsky of $71,500.
According to a statement by Zone 16 Police Headquarters, the arrest was effected by operatives of its financial and cybercrime unit.
The statement issued by SP Gunn Emonena in Yenagoa, said a search of the suspects’ residence led to the recovery of wraps of Indian hemp, two vehicles, two laptops and 10 phones.
“The suspects, through their agent, offered the sum of 17,000 US Dollars bribe, which was rejected by our well-trained reformed officers.
“The money is registered and will be tendered as exhibits in court,” Mr Emonena said.
According to him, the AIG of the zone, Adebola Hamzat, has hailed the police team for rejecting the bribe, and reiterated the commitment of the command to the protection of lives and property of citizens.
