Abuja Teaching Hospital to bury 108 unclaimed corpses

The hospital gave the indication in a public notice, adding that the burial was necessary to decongest its morgues.

The abandoned corpses were brought into the morgue mostly by security agents, including police and FRSC officials, the  hospital added.

It said that out of the 16 babies, Ayomide, Olaniyi, Gbenga Bidemi and Joshua were brought into the morgue on November 9, 2021 while Kamibili, Chentiwu, Augustine were deposited at the morgue between June 22 and June 26, 2023.

The hospital added that the corpses of a set of triplets that were brought in on June 11, 2023, were also yet to be claimed.

Among the adults listed for mass burial were the corpses of Haruna Ibrahim, Musa Muhammed, Yusuf Ibrahim, Sugar Joy, Abdullahi Mohammed and Paul Ishaku, while all others were unknown.

The hospital said all the 108 corpses would be given mass burial in the next two weeks.

“The Management of University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, wishes to notify the general public and depositors of abandoned or unknown corpses that in her efforts to decongest the morgue, shall evacuate the abandoned corpses if there is no claim of the bodies after two weeks of this publication,” it stated.
