AGAIN, JIGAWA APC RECEIVES TORRENTS OF PDP DECAMPEES By Ali Baba-Inuwa The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has received another major boost with the defection of a prominent political figure in Jahun Local Government, Alhaji Magaji Uba, popularly known as Jarman Jahun, who led thousands of his supporters from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the APC.
Governor Malam Umar Namadi received Jarma and his supporters on Monday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Dutse, where he described the former PDP chieftain as a prominent and popular politician whose political influence extends across Jahun Local Government.
Governor Namadi stated that Jarma contested for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2023 general elections and secured more than 30,000 votes despite the APC being the ruling party at the time.
“And those votes were not simply because of the PDP; he earned them because of the respect, dignity, and goodwill he enjoys among the people of Jahun. Therefore, having someone of his stature join the APC is a significant achievement for the party,” the governor said.
He assured Jarma and his teaming supporters of continued mutual trust and respect, saying his administration would work closely with them to advance the development of the state.
“We assure you that, God willing, we will continue to maintain a relationship of trust and mutual respect with you. We also assure you and all your supporters that you will not regret the decision you have made.
Narrating the reasons behind his decision to join the APC, Jarma said he and his supporters carefully reviewed the achievements of the Governor Namadi administration before deciding to embrace the governor’s political movement and ultimately decamped to the ruling party.
He said the administration’s 12-Point Agenda, particularly its focus on education, health, and agriculture, was among the major factors that influenced their decision.
“The reason I and my supporters decided to join your political journey is that we sat down and carefully reviewed your achievements. The first thing we considered was that, by the grace of God, you came with a clear direction. You have a 12-point agenda. We examined it carefully and identified four areas that we considered particularly important and which are also priorities across the world today: education, health, and agriculture,” he said.
Jarma commended the administration’s interventions in agriculture, noting that with the majority of the people of Jigawa depending on farming for their livelihoods, efforts to modernize agriculture, provide inputs and equipment, train personnel, and create opportunities for young people were significant.
He particularly cited the J-Agro initiative, saying the training and opportunities provided to young people had given many of them renewed hope.
“In education, just this week alone, you recruited more than 1,000 teachers. In the health sector alone, you have recruited about 2,000 staff.”
The event was attended by the Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council, senior government officials, and APC stakeholders from various parts of the state.
