Bandits attack 2 Zamfara communities as troops rescue 26 in Katsina
Bandits have killed several villagers and abducted many others when they attacked Banga Village in Kurya Madaro District, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Wednesday morning.
The bandits stormed the village at about 0130hrs, reports from the area said.
The incident occurred days after troops repel attack by notorious bandit kingpin, Kallamu, in Garin Abara, Isa Local Government Area.
The bandits however escaped with four of the eight people they abducted from the village.
A heavy gun battle ensued when the troops confronted the bandits, forcing them to retreat, but one villager was killed after being struck by a stray bullet during the intense firefight.
Military sources said the troops have continued with the efforts to rescue the victims and apprehend the bandits responsible for the attack.
Meanwhile, a local judge abducted along with five residents of Mahuta, Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State has been rescued by troops.
Mr. Rabiu Tukur and the six villagers were abducted on April 8, 2025 when the bandits launched a three-pronged attack on the village at about 11:55 p.m.
The troops said Tukur, 49, was rescued while efforts are on to get the five other victims released.
In the same Dandume LGA, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have successfully repelled a bandit attack and rescued 25 people kidnapped in Unguwar Maigaya and Kwanar Rigiyan at about 11:45 p.m..
While troops repel the attack at Kwanar Rigiyan, the bandits succeeded in abducting an undisclosed number of people at Unguwar Maigaya.
A swift follow-up operation led to the rescue of 25 kidnapped victims unharmed.
