The Bauchi State Ministry of Education is to partner with the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) to introduce a 12-month accelerated training programme for Huffaz (Tsangaya tutors) in the state.
The programme seeks to integrate Qur’anic education with conventional subjects through the NBAIS Tahfeez curriculum.
The Director, Directorate of Arabic and Islamic Studies and Humanities Research (DAHR), Dr. Abdulrashid Salman, who represented the Chief Registrar of the Board, stated this when he led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Abdulkadir M Ibrahim, in his office on Monday.
Salman said the visit was to strengthen collaboration between NBAIS and the ministry and to formally introduce the training programme, which he described as short, thorough, beneficial and all-encompassing.
He said the programme is specifically aimed at bridging the gap and addressing public misperception about the Tsangaya system of education in Nigeria.
He listed areas of collaboration to include integration of Arabic/Islamic education with conventional education, training and retraining of Tsangaya teachers, enrolment of qualified tutors, data collection and mapping of Tsangaya schools to identify eligible participants, and joint monitoring and evaluation.
In his response, the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Abdulkadir Ibrahim (Cikasoron Bauchi), welcomed the initiative and described the visit as timely.
He said the ministry welcomes any idea that will uplift the education sector.
“Your coming is timely as we welcome any idea to uplift the education sector and we look forward to more collaboration,” he said.
The commissioner assured the board of the ministry’s full support for the successful implementation of the programme in Bauchi State.
