Borno to close largest IDP camp in 2 weeks
Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has announced that the Muna IDP camp in Maiduguri will be closed within the next two weeks.
Governor Zulum made the announcement during an early morning visit to the camp on Monday.
Muna is one of the largest camps housing displaced persons at the height of the humanitarian crisis in the state. The government has since resettled about 75% of its inhabitants.
During his first term in office, Governor Zulum pledged to close all camps within Maiduguri and its surrounding areas, a goal he has largely achieved by shutting down more than twelve formal camps.
During the visit, the governor promised to support and improve the means of livelihood of the IDPs before they move out.
Muna camp currently has about 10,000 displaced persons.
