Breaking: Court grants bail to Yahaya Bello 

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Friday, granted bail to former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

In granting the N500 million bail, Justice Emeka Nwite, said Bello must produce two sureties in like sum, who must own  landed properties in Abuja.

The judge ordered that the title documents of the properties must be verified by the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court,

Justice Nwite equally ordered that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means, and submit their recent passport photographs to the court.

He barred Bello from travelling abroad without the court’s permission, and ordered him to surrender his international passport.

The court held that the defendant should remain at Kuje prison, pending the perfection of the bail conditions.

It subsequently slated February 24 and 28 for the commencement of hearing into the 19-count money laundering charge filed against Bello by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Bello, who piloted the affairs of Kogi state from 2016 to 2024, had before the ruling pleaded his innocence to his alleged complicity in an N80.2 billion fraud.
