Burkina Faso extends military rule by 5 years under national accord 
Burkina Faso on Saturday announced the extension of the current military regime by another five years, this means, the 36-year- old Interim President, Capt. Ibrahim Traoré would continue serving in that position and also be eligible to contest in elections in 2029.
The decision has vehemently been rejected by most political parties.
The army has governed Burkina Faso since 2022, carrying out two coups that it said were justified in large part by the persistent insecurity.
After taking power, the coup leaders expelled French troops and diplomats, and have instead turned to Russia for military assistance.
