The National Council of State will meet on Thursday to review some strategic issues affecting national security, a statement from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), said in Monday.
Also to meet on the same day is the Police Council, the statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the SGF office, Mr Segun Imohiosen added.
The meetings will hold at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The Council of State consists of the President, who is the Chairman, Vice-President, who is the Deputy Chairman, all former Presidents and Heads of State, all former Chief Justices of Nigeria, President of the Senate, Speaker of the House of Representatives, all Governors, and the Minister of Justice and Attorney General.
The council has responsibilities in advising the President in respect of national population census, prerogative of mercy, national honours, appointment of members of the Independent National Electoral Commission, National Judicial Council and the National Population Commission.
It also advises the President whenever requested to do so on the maintenance of public.
The membership of the Police Council on the other hand includes the President, state governors, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission. Its main mandate is to provide general supervision of the police force and advise the President on matters such as the appointment of the Inspector-General.
The statement said that the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office, Mr Emanso Umobong, had explained that the meeting would address matters of national importance, including key issues affecting national security and policing.
The Council of State meeting will commence at 1 p.m., followed by the Police Council meeting at 2 p.m., on August 9.
The statement, however, said members could participate either physically or virtually.
