Data collection on kidney prevalence begins in Yobe’s Bade Emirate

The Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC) of Yobe State University has mobilised researchers for the collection of data in Bade to determine the causes of the prevalence of kidney disease in the area.
The research is being conducted in partnership with the office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Science, Research and Innovation, Dr. Mahmoud Bukar Maina.
Maina, who paid a courtesy call on the Chairman of Bade local government, Alhaji Babagana Ibrahim, said that the research would cover other related ailments.
He said that the enumerators and researchers include Medical Doctors, Pharmacists, Medical Lab Scientists, Medical and Para Medical Experts, Geologists, Eco-toxicologists, GIS Specialists and Community Mobilisers.
He explained that the research team would conduct the exercise across Bade Emirate and other parts of the state.
In his response, the Chairman said the Emir of Bade, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Suleiman, has extended his support for the initiative, and appreciated Governor Mai Mala Buni for sending the research team.
He disclosed that the people of Gashua and its environs have been battling with kidney disease for years, and assured of their total support to the research team in carrying out the exercise.
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director, Yobe State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Baba Goni Waru said they would render all necessary support to make the exercise a huge success for the benefit of the health of the citizens.
