Emir Cancels Plan To Hold Durbar In Kano
The 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero has cancelled plan to hold the traditional durbar in celebration of the Sallah festival.
Emir Bayero, in a broadcast on Wednesday night said after due consultation, the durbar would not hold to avoid breakdown of law and order.
The decision will ease the tension that has engulfed the state over the decision of the two emirs presently contending for the stool in court, both announced plan to hold the durbar procession.
He said, “This decision follows advice by our respected religious leaders, whom we have special regards for. This is in addition to calls by elders and the deliberations we made with our council members.
“We pray that this withdrawal will bring a lasting peace to our dear state.
“We are reiterating that Sallah durbar is not a do-or-die affair, and if it will cause mayhem and crisis which will lead to loss of lives and property, it is necessary for us to forgo the plan.
“We call on the people to use the festive period for visitation to strengthen the bond of kinship.”
Emir Bayero prayed for peace and blessings to the state and its people, as they mark the end of the Ramadan fast.
