A former reporter with Daily Trust has formally declared his intention to run for the Yobe State House of Assembly, citing poor representation and a historic political imbalance in his home constituency.

Ibrahim Baba Saleh is aspiring to represent Nangere Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during a political engagement that spanned ward and local government levels, Baba Saleh said his decision followed persistent calls from elders, women, and youth who have expressed deep dissatisfaction with the current state of representation.

“Across our communities, there is a shared sentiment that Nangere has not fully benefited from the dividends of democracy as seen in other constituencies,” he said.

Sale outlined a blueprint centered on deliberate investment in education, including improving access to quality learning, supporting school infrastructure, and creating opportunities for academic and vocational advancement.

The aspirant highlighted what he called a longstanding imbalance in Nangere Constituency.

“Where I come from, Tikau has never produced a member of the Yobe State House of Assembly from 1999 to date,” he said.

“This reality underscores a longstanding imbalance in representation and further strengthens the case for equity, inclusion, and a deliberate shift toward giving every segment of our constituency a fair voice in governance.”

Saleh emphasized that his aspiration is not a do-or-die endeavor, stressing that democracy thrives on choice and respect for outcomes.

The aspirant expressed profound gratitude to Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, whose leadership and mentorship, he said, inspired his entry into politics.

He also aligned himself fully with APC stakeholders in endorsing Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, as a worthy successor in the 2027 gubernatorial race.

According to him, Wali is an experienced, competent, and capable person who will  consolidate on the gains achieved in the state so far.

The declaration engagement across the constituency was concluded at the palace of the Emir of Tikau, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Muhammadu Grema II, where Saleh received royal blessings and prayers for guidance and success.
