Ganduje Advocates Deployment Of Technology To Degrade Terrorists
The National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje says Nigeria should utilise the best technology to degrade bandits and insurgents terrorising the country.
He made the suggestion today when he led members of the National Working Committee of the party on a sympathy visit over the recent attack on a military formation by terrorists in Yobe State.
A statement by Mamman Mohammed, Director-General, Press and Media Affairs to Yobe State Governor, said Ganduje met with Governor Mai Mala Buni during the visit.
He said the fight against insurgency and banditry must move with the realities of the time, and described as unfortunate, the resources being destroyed by terrorists over the years across the country.
“The resources meant for development are now to being used for replacement of the equipment destroyed.
“Similarly, ones attention as a leader is now distracted to some other issues and slowing attention and pace on developmental programmes,” he observed.
Responding, Governor Buni said government at various levels are looking into the use of more modern technology in the current fight against the terrorists.
“We, at the Subnational level and Governors of the Lake Chad Basin Forum are carefully analysing the use of drones by the enemy so as to collaborate with security agencies to checkmate the threat,” Buni said.
He assured that this would be discussed at higher level especially with the President to effectively checkmate the terrorists.
“This is a national problem, because when they attack military formations and cart away arms, one can’t tell where it may be used. These attacks should therefore be seen as attacks on the nation,” the governor said.
