Gov. Namadi probes Commissioner, DG over protest

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has pledged to investigate the administration’s projects and programmes executed in Birnin Kudu local government area.
This followed protests by residents who faulted government officials on the claims of executing projects in the area during a townhall in Birnin Kaduna, attended by former governors Ali Sa’adu, and Badaru Abubakar, the current minister of defence.
Chanting ‘Karya ne, ba’ayi ba’ meaning it’s a lie, it has not been done, the residents forced the Commissioner of Health, Dr Muhammad Abdullahi Kainuwa, and the Director-General, Empowerment and Employment Agency, Dr Habib Kanya, to abandon their speeches halfway.
“We’ll investigate all the claims and take necessary action on anyone found wanting.
“The main objective of the townhall is to meet the people so that government officials will tell their achievements and plans for the respective local government areas, and for the people to testify or otherwise and in return, for the people to tell the government what they need, and where,” the governor said.
According to him, the aim of the townhall is to enhance transparency and accountability in the running of government business.
“We have listened to what the people of Birnin Kudu have said, and I assure you, we’ll take action.”
The governor, in spite of his resolve to investigate the matter, however, said the unruly attitude of youths at the forum was unbecoming of them.
“You are the future leaders, our religion, Islam, and tradition teach us discipline, patience, and respect for elders and leaders. It is very bad when a leader is talking and a younger person is shouting, disgracing and harassing him. That will not augur well for everyone,” Namadi stressed.
