Gov. Namadi presents N630m grant to rural women

Jigawa state governor Malam Umar Namadi has disbursed N630 million to 12,600 rural women across the state to improve or start their own businesses.
This was disclosed by the governor, while distributing the grant of N50,000 to each beneficiary at Gwari village of Dutse local government area.
“This government has set aside a total sum of N630 million as empowerment grant to 12,600 rural women across the state”.
“The gesture is part of the present administration’s 12 point agenda of supporting economic growth of the women in the state.
“51 percent of the state population of 7.5 million are female, and also women appears to be more economically backward in the state, therefore it is very critical and indispensable to empower women to achieve poverty reduction in the state.
“Today we are lunching another round of women empowerment in Jigawa state, in which we targeted 12,600 women with grant of N50,000 each to improve or start their own trade or business of choice.
“Besides this, we also signed MOU with World Bank for women empowerment, which we now increase our counter funds from N50 Million to N500 million, we also injected N4 billion into Bank of Industry for empowering our people with special and simple packages for women in addition to different packages we give them in the past,” he added.
The governor expressed optimism that, “beside poverty eradication women empowerment will help in reducing domestic crisis, promote peace and love in the family which will enhance children’s moral upbringing, public productivity growth and development in the state”.
Namadi urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity in improving their businesses.
In her speech, Commissioner for women Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza Abdulwahab said, a total of two hundred women were selected from Gwari village and other communities based on priority needs.
Hajiya Hadiza expressed gratitude on behalf of women in the state to governor Namadi for introducing a number of policies and programmes aimed at supporting women to become self-reliant.
