Sen. Lawan flags off free medical outreach in Yobe North

The Senator representing Yobe North, Sen. Ahmad Lawan, has flagged-off a free medical outreach for residents of the constituency.
The senator has also inaugurated the free inoculation of animals in the area.
The medical outreach is holding at the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, and Yobe Specialist Hospital, Gashu’a, while the free animal inoculation is taking place in Machina.
The free medical outreach covers a wide range of services, including eye treatment and surgery, gynecological check up and surgeries for families, screening for clinical cancer for women, free surgical services, and the distribution of essential drugs.
The free animal inoculation on the other hand, is meant to safeguard the health of the animals and invariably human health.
The programme covers diseases affecting donkeys, horses, cattle, goats, sheep, and poultry.
In his speech, Sen. Lawan said it was the seventh year of the free health outreach initiated by him to ensure the health and well-being of the people and their livestock across the six local government areas under the senatorial zone.
“Over the years, this programme has become an indispensable part of my service to Yobe North constituents. It provides critical healthcare services to thousands of families who may have otherwise lacked access to them,” he said.
The senator commended President Bola Tinubu for creating the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, saying the action will help to develop the livestock sector in Nigeria.
He also hailed Governor Mai Mala Buni, for doing the same in recognition of the importance of the livestock industry to the economy of Yobe state.
“I believe that if we harness our livestock properly, our people will gain employment and wealth. These two developments are positive ones that will make Yobe, and, indeed, the entire country, very successful in terms of ensuring that the livestock industry continues to play a major role.
“For the records, the livestock industry in Nigeria is worth about N30 trillion. That is a huge industry.
“I’m sure with what has happened in the area of creating this ministry at the federal and state levels, we will see very important improvement in the contribution of the livestock industry to the economy,” Sen. Lawan said.
