Gov. Namadi appoints Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani as 17th Emir of Gumel

Gov. Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, has approved the appointment of Dr Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani as the 17th Emir of Gumel.
This is contained in a statement by Malam Bala Ibrahim, the Secretary to the State Government on Sunday in Dutse.
“The Jigawa State Government once again extends its deepest condolences to the Royal family, the people of Gumel Emirate, the State’s Council of Chiefs, and all citizens of Jigawa State during this period of immense grief following the passing of HRH Alh. (Dr.) Ahmed Muhammad Sani II.
“We pray that Allah SWT forgive his sins, accept his good deeds, and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus. May Allah also grant the family, the Emirate, and the people of Jigawa the strength and fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss. May Allah admit him into Jannatul Firdaus together with our departed parents and loved ones,” he said.
Ibrahim said that the appointment of the new Emir was based on the recommendations of both the Gumel Emirate Council Kingmakers
state Council of Chiefs.
“Upon the recommendation of both the Gumel Emirate Council Kingmakers and the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Jigawa State, Malam (Dr.) Umar A Namadi, FCA, has approved the appointment of Dr. Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani as the 17th Emir of Gumel.
“He succeeds his father, HRH Alh. (Dr.) Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, who died on Thursday, September 3, 2026, after a distinguished reign of 46 years.
“Until his appointment as Emir of Gumel, Dr. Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani held the title of Chiroman Gumel and served as Director of Cyber Security at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
“Governor Malam (Dr.) Umar A Namadi, FCA, expresses gratitude to the kingmakers of the Gumel Emirate Council, under the Chairmanship of Wazirin Gumel, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Nasoro, and his members.
“He also thanks their Royal Highnesses the Emirs of Hadejia, Kazaure, Ringim, and Dutse, who constitute the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs, for their invaluable advice during the selection process.
“The Governor, on behalf of the Jigawa State Government, congratulates the new Emir on his appointment and wishes him many years of successful service to Gumel Emirate and the nation,” he said.
