Gov. Yusuf promises CNG-powered buses to alleviate transportation challenges
Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State has promised to procure sets of CNG-powered buses to alleviate transportation challenges being faced by residents after the removal of fuel subsidy.
Yusuf said this at the inauguration of 10 CNG buses procured by the Nigeria Labour Congress, Kano State Branch, at their office on Katsina Road.
This is contained in a statement by his spokesperson, Malam Sanusi Tofa in Kano on Thursday.
Tofa quoted Yusuf as saying that 30 of the 80 luxury buses purchased but abandoned by the previous administration would be converted to CNG for public use.
He said that the remaining 50 buses would be added to the fleet currently being used to transport students to and from school daily.
The governor commended President Bola Tinubu for providing the easy-to-maintain vehicles to the 36 states towards reducing the challenges caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.
He also praised the NLC for using Kano State as the launch pad for the buses and assured of continued collaboration with the union to foster mutual understanding and support.
“We plan to establish a fully equipped CNG Service Centre to ensure proper maintenance of the vehicles,” he said.
Yusuf pledged to provide land for the construction of a Nigeria Labour Congress Institute in Kano, promising to lay the foundation stone soon and encouraging contributions toward its development.
The NLC President Joe Ajaero, who attended the event, commended the governor for his commitment to implementing the N71,000 minimum wage promptly.
He appealed to other governors to emulate Kano’s labour-friendly approach and warned of consequences for any government failing to implement the approved wage increment.
